How to Get to Homer


Come to Homer just for the Halibut!

Homer is a maritime community located on the southern part of the Kenai Peninsula. 40% of all the sportfishing in Alaska is done on the Kenai Peninsula. It is a mecca for the sport fisherman with Homer being the best place for Halibut fishing. 

There are several ways to travel to Homer, Alaska. Slightly more than half of all visitors to Alaska arrive by air.

Flying

    You can fly into Anchorage and then fly to Homer. Yes! We have an airport. The trip is only 45 minutes.

Driving

You can also fly into Anchorage, then rent a car or RV and drive south to Homer along the Seward Highway then the Sterling Highway. It is a beautifully scenic trip of 225 miles and about 4.5 to 5 hours. All the roads are paved with four lane areas and passing lanes. There are numerous campgrounds and RV parks along the way.

Driving the AlCan Highway

Driving to the north is no longer the ordeal it was in the early days. Most of the major roads now are asphalt surfaced with areas of construction or repair. Suggest one buys The Milepost. It provides mile by mile description of all major highways & roads in Alaska & northwestern Canada

Alaska Marine Highway

You could also take the Alaska State Ferry from Bellingham, WA. via the Inside Passage to say Juneau and from there fly to Anchorage. Or take your own vehicle, depart at Haines, Alaska and drive to Anchorage
